The Must-Have Decade

The must-have decade is regurgitating fashion from this century as if they discovered something unbelievably new. (Well maybe they did discover that there was life 40 years ago too…)
This regurgitation is happening faster and faster. So when we have nothing left to bring back anymore, maybe we’ll all get back to the individual style and be happy again. We’ll finally be one offs once more. When you don’t “have to have” the same shoes as Madonna, or the same dress as Nicole Kidman or the same hairdo as Jennifer Aniston.
I’m sure there is something deeper in every woman than to imitate someone else. I’m sure one can be individual and does not have to be told what to wear and how to wear it.
But if you do have to be told, (or you think so), then make sure that it suits your shape and age.
So when you want to put on that frilly lacy skirt that barely covers your hind side and you still want to show off your shrivelled cleavage including your belly button - think about dignity and taste. You don’t have to - you can be tasteful and still be fashionable.
You don’t have to follow the advice of a magazine on how to look ridiculous. …………… Claudia

Millions of Lame Duck Web sites

http://www.giftware.net.au/businesses/resources_for_retailers/how_to_get_ranked_by_search_engines.shtml

Do you actually get traffic to your web site? Do people ever visit it, or use it? Are they prospects who might buy from you, or just a few that stumbled across your site? There are millions of webs sites out there that get virtually no web traffic. No Hits. No useful visitors.

Some may be pretty. Perhaps even a work of art. Some may be an excellent brochure giving a brilliant presentation and a wealth of information about your products and services to the few who actually read them, but if your not getting qualified visitors, then your website is like a bunch of junk mail flyers that were never ever delivered.

If your web site is one of those, you can change that with an investment of your time. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to turn your web site into an effective marketing tool, but you do need to invest some regular time. That’s the key cost to getting ranked on Google so that it can send you fresh prospects every day for free. Read How To Get Ranked By the Search Engines.

Categorised Gift Fairs

During it’s September Sydney trade fair, Gift & Homewares Australia (GHA) announced to it’s retailers that they would be providing a new format for future gift and homewares trade fairs using categorisation.

With huge growth in the size of exhibition space and the number of exhibitors at trade fairs in recent years, this move is expected to benefit those retailers that are specialised in that they will be able to selectively visit the section they are interested in.

Trade fair categories announced by GHA are:-

Kitchen to table products – including china/porcelain, glassware, napery, gourmet edibles and woodwares.

Living décor products – including art/framed pictures, ceramics, clocks, photo frames, flora and furniture.

Gifts for giving products – including Australian made product, General giftware, figurines & collectables, men’s gifts and souvenirs.

Accessorise and pamper products – including aromatherapy, bags, bridal and jewellery.

Read, write and play products – including books, electronics, party goods, shop fittings, Toys, Christmas and seasonal, and religious.

The February 2007 Gift and homewares trade fair at the showground at Homebush NSW is expected to feature over 700 exhibitors providing buyers and retailers with access to a comprehensive collection of products and the latest gift and homewares items.

Australian Retailing - a bright but competitive future

Retiring Woolworths chief executive Roger Corbett says Australian retailers must strive to deliver world class standards. He also said Australian retailing had a bright but competitive future.

Mr Corbett’s departure comes only weeks after the company delivered its first $1 billion net profit, after grabbing more than $4 billion in acquisitions during his term. The Profit result is around four times what the company was making when he took over the position.

Mr Corbett who says his Christian faith has helped him in his work was known to go price checking in rival supermarkets, and to visit his own Woolworths stores and take over the PA system to praise staff & thank customers.

He wont be retiring completely as he leaves with a 5 year $3 million consultancy arrangement and retains his board seats at John Fairfax and the Reserve Bank.
