Ban or Levy Free Plastic Shopping Bags?

Our government has realised that a small percentage of the plastic bags supplied by retailers are not being disposed of appropriately (breaking the law) and are yet another environmental hazard. So they want to either stop their use, or their free supply, or tax them (even more), or all of the above.

They have given the job of making this noise to the man that they couldn’t trust with the ministry, (for fear he would say something honest and stupidly embarrass them).

Firstly we all know the bags are not free. Nothing is. They are not separately priced but included in the price you pay for the goods.

Secondly most of them are recycled by the shoppers who use them for a myriad of other things, particularly for securely wrapping garbage and thereby reducing health risks and other environmental problems.

You know, a certain percentage of voters also break the law with motor vehicles. Is our holy government also planning to ban motor vehicles or tax them more? Or perhaps we could just get our good government to concentrate on educating, and punishing the plastic bag offenders.

The real issue here is not the plastic bags at all. It’s a trick to get your mind off the real news of the moment, which is that the same party of politicians have been caught taking money from developers immediately befor approving their projects. They insist that they are not bribes of course and at the same time the party are elsewhere trying to get the laws changed so that government can compulsively acquire private real estate and re-sell it to developers. Why is the opposition not screaming the house down on these matters I wonder?

Do politicians think we are all stupid out here? Yes they do. In fact as a society they know for sure that we are. We all know very well that if they are not corrupt before they get into power that most politicians are soon corrupted by it, yet we allow a two party preferred system and we allow political parties to accept “Gifts”.

Currently we have foolishly appointed one organisation to running all levels of government in our country. They have started with a magnificent campaign of whitewashing and idealism whilst carefully planning only one thing, their next election.

Politicians are not there to help this country they are there to help themselves. So get off your arse Australia and object.
