Australian online shopping and classifieds browsing is at a lower level than for NZ on-line shoppers according to internet statistics company Hitwise.

NZ Online Shopping and Classifieds internet site visits added up to 7.18% of all traffic for the week ending March 15. This figure is way below the USA levels at 9.7% online shoppers, but interestingly is well up on Australian online shopping for the period at only 5.73% of all internet traffic. The bad part for New Zealand is that 28.3% of their online shopping traffic was on overseas shopping sites.

New Zealand Online Auctions and Classifieds site Trade Me was their leading shopping website, with 48.4% of the Shopping & Classifieds industry traffic for the week.

Hitwise gathers data by industry category by monitoring traffic at the IPS level.
