“We are incredibly proud to be recognised by our peers in an industry of constant innovation and creativity. To be chosen as finalists amongst such a high calibre of businesses is an honour, and we already feel like winners, whatever the outcome on May 30th. We are especially excited because this is the first time an online business has been up for the “Best Retailer’ award” states Kathy.

The duo’s business, Babycupcakes®, was established in 2003, specialising in bouquets of baby clothing, nappy cakes and baby clothing cleverly folded to look like food. Whilst the business started as an online baby gift service, babycupcakes.com , high demand for such unique baby products meant an expansion to the wholesale gift market in 2005.

“We now send over 4000 baby gifts a year worldwide on a a retail basis, as well as stocking over 400 retailers around Australia. We currently export to New Zealand, and are in the process of establishing export channels to the UK and Europe” says Marianne.

The blossoming business is based in a warehouse in Southern Sydney.

” It is fantastic that we can run what has developed into a worldwide business from Sydney.  We state on our packaging that all our gifts are hand rolled with love in Australia, and we are very proud of that fact. By manufacturing our gifts here, in Sydney, we can be assured that all our products are professionally made, according to our own high standards”explains Kathy.

Six expert industry judges will evaluate the finalists based on creativity, innovation, packaging and design, and winners will be announced at a gala presentation dinner – The Gift Awards 2008, Friday 30 May 2008, Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, Pyrmont.

Proudly supporting the Starlight Children’s Foundation, bookings to the black-tie event are now being taken, and are open to any company in the gift industry to enjoy what is fast becoming the industry’s night of nights. For more information, please visit www.thegiftawards.com.au.
